One thing that we know for sure in the web design and SEO world is that all search engines are different and none follow the same principles when indexing websites. A website could rank on the first page of Google for a specific term and not even be found within the first 5 pages of Yahoo or Bing. Do Yahoo and Bing even matter?
You better believe they do! According to a new report released by comScore, Bing and Yahoo control 28% of the market with Ask.com and AOL search taking up some of the market as well.
While the 33.6% of the market that Google doesn’t control doesn’t seem like a major deal, it is a big deal. This market share represents billions of searches by millions of users from around the world. Bing and Yahoo should still be taken into serious consideration at least for the next 5-10 years depending on how much market share they manage to hold.
It is also important to pay attention to new search engines that may emerge in the future. Some search engines may find creative ways to capture market share and should be given their proper attention and respect.
